The scene
A small railway museumThe alarm sounds at the railway museum. The old stationmaster’s compass, displayed beside his portrait, has disappeared.
Only three visitors entered that room. The camera recorded their complete visits, but none seems to coincide with the theft.
What we know for certain
One of these three people removed the compass with their own hands, without accomplices. Nobody used another entrance. The records are complete and authentic; only the camera’s clock is incorrect.
The three accounts
Alicia Soler
Collector«I went in, looked at the portrait and continued towards the carriages.»
Bruno Vidal
Photographer«I was there for only half a minute. I did not even get my camera ready.»
Clara Bosch
Retired guide«When I arrived, the stand already looked empty.»

01The monitored stand
An independent sensor records the compass present at 18:13:00 and absent at 18:15:00. Its clock shows the correct time.
02Three complete visits
The camera shows Alicia inside from 18:08:00 to 18:08:30; Bruno from 18:11:00 to 18:11:30; and Clara from 18:16:00 to 18:16:30.
03The clock check
At 18:20:00 in real time, the guard holds a synchronised clock in front of the camera. The timestamp on that same image reads 18:17:00.
04A constant delay
Maintenance confirms that the camera’s clock kept exactly the same offset throughout the afternoon.
05No unfinished visits
Each visitor entered once. The recordings show each person crossing the exit at the end of their interval, without returning or remaining hidden.
