The planetarium lights

Two known button presses conceal a third. Reconstruct which lights the unknown hand must have changed.

5 min300 points

At the end of a rehearsal, the planetarium’s sequence has been altered. The log preserves three button presses, but the camera only identifies who made the first and last. The middle press was unauthorised.

Each card unlocks just one button on the panel. To discover who intervened in the middle, you must undo the known changes. A lit lamp alone does not tell you when it was switched.

What we know for certain

One of the three people made the middle press without help. Each press toggles its lights: on becomes off, and off becomes on. There were no faults or other changes. Cards were not lent and only allow their own button.

Opening these five clues does not cost points.

01The initial state

Before the three presses, red was on; blue and green were off.

02The assigned buttons

Aina can only toggle red and blue. Brais can only toggle red and green. Cora can only toggle blue and green.

03The first press

The first press was authorised and is fully visible: it toggled only red.

04The last press

The last press was also authorised and is fully visible: it toggled only blue and green. These director’s controls are independent of the cards.

05The observed result

After the three presses, red and blue were on and green was off. The middle press used one of the three personal buttons.
