What we know for certain
One of these people put the record in their own middle file box before the rearrangement. Each person had one file box. The original labels correctly identified their owners. No file box or document was moved afterwards.

01The later photograph
The labels read from left to right: Paz, Rai, Oriel. The image is not reversed.
02The label movement
The left label moved to the middle; the middle label moved to the right; the right label moved to the left. This cycle happened exactly once.
03The document’s position
Before the labels moved, the record went into the middle file box. The camera shows this without revealing the name on its label.
04The stationary file boxes
No box physically changed position. The document stayed inside the same box after the rearrangement.
05The original ownership
Before the labels moved, each file box correctly displayed the name of its sole owner. That owner was the person who put the record inside.
